Chad wants to know if it’s possible to be both overtrained and undertrained at the same time. The answer is yes and no. Say you’re training for a marathon and you feel like you haven’t run enough miles. You’re undertrained, so naturally you go out and run 27 miles at face pace just to make sure you can really do 26.2 in your race. Now you are overtrained. So naturally you take the next two weeks off. Now you are undertrained. But are you ever both overtrained and undertrained at the same time? Maybe at around mile 17 of your 27-mile run. It’s possible, but it only lasts for a fleeting moment.
If you really want to be both overtrained and undertrained all the time, I think what you need to do is run 17 miles every day. Good luck!
